Blocked Drains Eastlakes

Two golf courses border this suburb, Eastlake Golf Club on Gardeners Road and The Lakes Golf Club further south, both sitting on the deep sand deposits that run under the whole area.

That sand is the same material working its way into drains on ordinary residential streets nearby.

Any gap in a stormwater or sewer joint is an opening for that sand to take, sewer and stormwater lines alike, and once it's in it doesn't wash back out on its own.

It doesn't block a line outright the way a root mass does. It builds slowly, so a drain that's "just a bit slow" this month can be a real blockage by next month.

Properties backing onto that stretch tend to have had road works and drainage upgrades done around them over the decades, which sometimes means their own connection point sits at a different depth to the rest of the street.

It's worth checking on a camera rather than assuming a standard depth.

Sewer surcharge is a related risk on the lowest-lying streets, where the same shallow water table that infiltrates a cracked line can also push a struggling sewer back up into the house during sustained rain.

It's a slower build than a stormwater overflow, but the outcome, sewage inside the house, is worse, and it can happen well after the rain itself has stopped.
