Toilet call-outs tend to fall into a handful of patterns, and we sort out which one fast.

A single, local clog. Usually something that shouldn't have gone down, or caught in the bowl trap itself. Cleared there and then, most of the time.

Every fixture at once. If the whole house is backing up, not just the toilet, the trouble sits in the shared pipework, and we rule this in or out first rather than assuming.

Wipes marked "flushable." They don't break apart in water the way toilet paper does, and they're behind plenty of the callouts we get.

Tired cistern parts. Sometimes it looks like a blockage but it's actually weak flush pressure from ageing internals. We'll say so plainly if that's what's going on.

Root intrusion further along. Less common on a single toilet, but where the fixture sits close to an older sewer run, roots can be the real culprit even when nothing looks unusual up top.

Inside the denser walk-up buildings, several units often tie into the one shared stack, so a toilet that seems to be your problem can sometimes be a neighbour's blockage backing up your line instead. Worth flagging when you call, since it changes where we look first.

Some of the older units still run fittings built for lower flush volumes than modern toilets push through, which shows up as slow clearing even when nothing unusual has gone down the bowl.

Ground-floor terraces closer to the older sewer runs occasionally see toilet trouble that's actually a root problem in the pipe outside, not the fixture itself. If it's happened more than once, mention that on the call, since a camera check can settle it either way.

Step 1: Work out the scope. Just this toilet, or is something further along affected too? That decides our approach.

Step 2: Clear it properly. Hand tools or the jetter, whichever the blockage calls for, without cracking porcelain or scoring the line.

Step 3: Run it through. Several flushes to prove it's actually clear, not just working right now.

Step 4: Back it. Should the fault return, the labour on that clear is covered, no time limit attached.

A blocked toilet isn't something we let sit, and the response reflects that: fast out, price settled, no surprises once we're through the door.
